There are many people who have led extraordinary lives. If you feel as though you fit this bill, or that you have a story to be told through the journey of your life, you might consider writing it out in novel format. There are several successful novels of similar origins that have made a real difference in the lives of others. Whatever the reason, here is how to start a memoir.

There is a lot that goes into writing out a successful memoir that people actually want to read. A lot of the process is knowing how intriguing memoirs before yours have read. There are certain keys to this writing that you should know if you really want to get off to a good start. These keys are: accuracy, writing longevity, the good, and the bad.

The thing that writers lose credibility for is not researching what they are writing about. You see, in memoirs it is common to relate the time in life to historical events and the like. If you don’t remember accurately what was happening around the significant events of the book, it never hurts to do a little research. This way, you can ensure that your story is believed undoubtedly.

The next key to starting your memoirs is to just write. Seems simple enough, right? The point of this statement is that a lot of people who are writing out their life’s journeys try to edit as they go along. Truth be told, you will be a lot more candid and coherent if you just write out everything and worry later about editing it all to read well.

The last point is to have a story that balances the good things that have happened in your life against the bad things. Too much of one side or the other will likely cause your readers to lose interest. If it is exclusively about all the good things, it becomes something people cannot relate to. If it focuses on all the bad things that happened to you, the book becomes too depressing for most to care to finish.

Many people write their memoirs for differing reasons. For many, it is an opportunity to candidly retell their lives for their families to appreciate for years to come. Others want a grander presentation, and believe their story can impact the world. No matter the reason, this is how to start a memoir.
