As a business owner, you can operated your company as a sole proprietor, or it can be setup as a business structure, such as a limited liability company, or LLC. Forming an LLC as your structure for business is an excellent choice for most companies. Managing your operation as an LLC brings many benefits.

Following are five reasons to consider forming an LLC, if you are a small business owner:

1. Personal liability protection – As an entrepreneur, you are more apt to be sued. You need to protect yourself personally from your business, so your personal assets are untouchable if your business is sued. By starting an LLC that is correctly setup, you are usually protected.

2. Profession image – Nothing says professional company like an actual business structure. Just about anybody can call themselves a company, but only the people that take the extra step of using a business structure are truly serious about their business, and customers take notice of this.

3. Trust – If your business is an LLC, then it is a lot easier to locate vendors in which to do business with you, and a lot easier to get a business loan. Operating your business as a profession, and not a hobby, is a wonderful way to gain trust with those companies that you need to do business with.

4. Low audit risk – Sole proprietorships are more at risk to facing an IRS audit than LLCs. This probably is due to the probability that a person might be using the business as an excuse to get some benefits on their taxes (which are actually greater as an LLC) and the IRS is onto these people. However, if a person has taken the effort of LLC formation, then they are most likely in business for all of the right reasons.

5. Flexibility – When operating as an LLC, you have greater flexibility in how to go about operating your business. You can also bring on additional owners very easily, which is not possible as a sole proprietor. A limited liability company is a very adaptable business structure that allows a variety of options on how you wish to manage your company.

As an entrepreneur, you owe it to yourself, and your business, to run it as affectively as possible. Using a limited liability company as your business structure has many advantages, even more than those appearing in this article. Treat your business right and make it an LLC.
